A portal is an application which facilitates access to several applications from a central site. It is thus possible to grant a user access to the needed application with one portal via a front-end. Using a single-sign-on login, the user logs into the system once and can from then on use all applications without logging in once again. The user interface of the application is homogenous in design. This makes working with the applications very user friendly.
